Book
discussion

Though many have seen the movie, so much so we can quote lines verbatim, some may not have read the actual novel, which is loaded with much more content and subplots than presented in the movie.

This is your opportunity to unpack, discuss, reflect and share your hearts about this Pulitzer Prize book with a group of like minded people over a 6 week period (that meets once a week).

The Color Purple, novel by Alice Walker, published in 1982. It won a Pulitzer Prize in 1983. A feminist work about an abused and uneducated African American woman’s struggle for empowerment, The Color Purple was praised for the depth of its female characters and for its eloquent use of Black English Vernacular.

The Color Purple documents the traumas and gradual triumph of Celie, an African American teenager raised in rural isolation in Georgia, as she comes to resist the paralyzing self-concept forced on her by others. Celie narrates her life through painfully honest letters to God.

Book Discussion

Let’s Read: Perfect Peace by Daniel Black

A hands-on online (Zoom) weekly book discussion with beautiful like minded people.

Perfect Peace written by Daniel Black is a piercing fiction novel set in the 1940s which reveals one family’s journey of the historical generational patterns as a result of secrets, silence, unresolved pain and so much more. This book is filled with so many jewels that will leave the reader wanting more. Daniel Black courageously delivers a fiercely penetrating novel full of unexpected surprises and forces us to face issues we didn’t know we needed to face and process.

Come join us for this FREE event that will meet once a week for 6 weeks to discuss the chapters. This book is much too beautifully layered to discuss in just one day. 6 weeks is necessary to fully unpack its contents.

Your only job is to purchase the book, read each week, and show up weekly to discuss.

Our first discussion will be on June 5 to discuss chapters 1-6.

Black Beauty Healing

Free webinar

The Black Beauty buying power is a trilliion dollar industry. It is said that Black women buy 9 times more in beauty products than the general public. This is a sign that we are trying to attain a standard of beauty that is unattainable. The effects of Beauty trauma shows up in education, career choices, mate selection, self-perception, the way we are treated, the way we allow ourselves to be treated and child-rearing. Women who have beauty shame or experiences (knowing and unknowingly), pass on this trauma to their children continuing this cycle of shame.

The Black Beauty Healing webinar will lay the foundation to unpack, empower and equip Black women to love themselves authentically.  Participants in this workshop will learn to:

* Cultivate authenticity in beauty;
* Learn self-love practices;
• Examine our stories about beauty;
* Identify root causes of beauty shaming;
* Adjust beliefs about misconceptions of Black Beauty;
